Aphria’s chief strategy officer discusses what’s on tap for the cannabis company

Denise Faltischek has been fundamental in growing Aphria’s global footprint

Aphria, which is in the process of merging with Tilray to form the largest cannabis company in the world, is always exploring new ways to expand its position in the market. In an industry that is rapidly changing globally and is constantly faced with new regulations, the task isn’t an easy one. That’s why Aphria relies on Chief Strategy Officer Denise Faltischek to help the company develop, using her vast experience and knowledge to help the company shape its future operations.

Faltischek has a history of being involved in organizations that focus on people and wellbeing. She studied behavioral neuroscience in college and went on to become part of The Hain Celestial Group, an organic consumer products company, when she completed her studies. From there, she ultimately made her way to Aphria, lured by the benefits the cannabis market is providing to consumers. Faltischek explains, “When I saw the opportunity to join Aphria Inc., it reminded me of working in the organic products industry in its infancy.
Cannabis is a young industry, so it presents an opportunity to be part of the team of people who are helping to really frame it and build it out. It is interesting to be at the forefront of an industry with so much to offer in terms of opportunity and growth.”

As Aphria continues to advance and grow its footprint, it is concentrating on certain locations outside its home country of Canada. The US market is toward the top of the list, but Germany ranks high as one of the largest potential markets for medical cannabis. In addition, Faltischek points out that the company is always watching other countries, including Brazil, India and Mexico, which are showing promise as strong markets. Mexico’s recent acceptance of medical marijuana will increase its position.

When it comes to motivation, Faltischek doesn’t lack drive and is excited about what Aphria is doing and what it will do. She explains, “[It] goes back to the principle of helping people to live their very best life. It’s inspiring to be a partner to patients in their health journey and be able to provide a community where others who are similarly situated can share experiences. We have amazing high-quality products under the Aphria brand but it’s also about what lies beyond the products.”
