Management moves among marijuana companies continue to make headlines lately. This time, Canopy Growth Corporation has decided to make some changes regarding the role of Chief Legal Officer (CLO). The world’s leading cannabis and cannabis devices company recently announced that it has relied on the expertise of Christelle Gedeon, Ph.D., to take over the position.
Gedeon has received significant accolades throughout her career, such as the 2019 Canadian General Counsel Awards Tomorrow’s Leader, Canada’s Legal Department Leaders of the Year, and was named to the Legal 500 GC Powerlist two years ago. She is known to be a business strategist and accomplished lawyer with experience exceeding ten years, especially in the legal and strategic areas.
Among her most recent roles is the position of CLO and Corporate Secretary at The Metals Company (TMC). Prior to joining TMC, she was CLO and Corporate Secretary of Aphria, Inc., where she oversaw the large reverse takeover of Tilray Brands.
David Klein, CEO of Canopy Growth, commented on the recent appointment, saying that Gedeon is a proven leader in the legal markets and has a strong relationship with the cannabis industry. As such, he and his management team are extremely excited to have her join Canopy as she will be a key player in continuing to build the premier brand-driven cannabis company in North America.
While Gedeon’s experience in the cannabis industry is already enough to make her a key player in the company’s growth, she also brings with her vast knowledge of intellectual property management, complex regulatory structures, government relations and strategic acquisitions. She has had major direct roles in over 50 mergers, investments and strategic acquisitions, which adds value to Canopy’s future plans.
Congratulation!
