Charlotte’s Web Holdings launches new CW Labs Sciences Division

The Colorado-based cannabis company is expanding its research capabilities

One of the industry leaders in hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) products just made an announcement regarding a change in its research and development division. Charlotte’s Web Hemp (CNQ: CWEB), is expanding its internal division to explore the science behind phytocannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoid compounds that are derived from hemp. A new addition to the team will be leading the research & development team, Tim Orr, who was recently hired as the Senior Vice President of Innovation. Orr brings his experience in the product development area from the diagnostics, life sciences and medical industries, where he has been a global healthcare executive for over 30 years.

Charlotte’s Web is tapping Orr to manage both locations for Charlotte’s Web Labs (CW Labs) with over a dozen internal and external internal research specialists. One is located in Buffalo, New York and the second one in Boulder, Colorado. “I am proud to lead CW Labs in support of Charlotte’s Web’s innovation and scientific discovery,” stated Orr. “With science driving new formulation development and product efficacy, CW Labs acts as an engine of innovation to create new high-quality products and innovative delivery systems to customers who have come to trust and rely on Charlotte’s Web.”

The goal is for the team to work on advancing the science behind full-spectrum extracts to they can be controlled in a way that its breeding expresses other desired cannabinoids such as CBD, cannabidiolic acid (CBDA), cannabigerol (CBG), cannabinol (CBN) and cannabichromine (CBC), among others. The idea is for Charlotte’s Web to increase its current portfolio with new products that come from a thorough science-based investigation that includes clinical trials to study effectiveness and safety assurance.

Deanie Elsner, CEO of Charlotte’s Web, said, “CW Labs demonstrates our commitment to innovation and our cutting-edge position with consumer wellness products derived from our proprietary hemp. We want to thank Governor Cuomo for his leadership in this space, and we are looking forward to being even a bigger part of things in New York through our partnership with SUNY in the great city of Buffalo.”
